With Ohio State ranked No. 10 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, there’s a lot of ground to make up to get to the top four. Is there enough time, and enough meat on the schedule, to get back in the conversation?
That’s the question that college football experts from Yahoo! Sports, Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel debated.
Ohio State is 8-1 on the season and has games against No. 18 Michigan State and No. 4 Michigan still on the schedule, with Maryland sandwiched in between those two contests. On the surface, that appears to be a pretty solid route to getting onto the cusp of the Playoff.
Thamel and Wetzel aren’t too sure.
“They need to have an impressive victory over Michigan State, probably, to get back in this thing,” Wetzel said. “Or they’re going to be too far behind to the point where beating Michigan and whatever comes out of the West [in the B1G Championship Game] is going to be enough.”
Thamel thinks the Buckeyes’ chances are better, but isn’t guaranteeing them a spot.
“The Michigan win could put them on the cusp,” Thamel said.
Ohio State has a huge opportunity to post a win over Michigan State on the road this weekend. Perhaps that could move the Buckeyes up in the rankings.
Can Ohio State get back to the College Football Playoff?@DanWetzel and @PeteThamel are not optimistic.
