Illinois junior running back Reggie Corbin became the first Fighting Illini rusher to breach the 1,000-yard mark since Mikel Leshoure in 2010 this afternoon.

Corbin, who entered today’s contest against Nebraska with 952 yards and nine touchdowns off 105 carries (9.1 ypc), already has 53 yards rushing — including a 20-yard burst — heading into the second quarter of action. He’s on pace to finish with nearly 1,300 yards this season, however, which would would come short of Leshoure’s post of 1,697 eight years ago.

Currently down 21-14, Illinois (4-5, 2-4 Big Ten) desperately needs a win today to remain in the hunt for its first bowl bid since 2014. After Nebraska (2-7, 1-5), the Illini will close out the regular season with West contenders Iowa (6-3, 3-3) and Northwestern (5-4, 5-1).
