Nebraska started its 2018 campaign by going 0-6 overall.
In the team’s seventh game, a win finally came the Cornhuskers’ way. The Huskers then won their second game right after, moving to 2-6. A game against Ohio State ended in a 5-point defeat, but Nebraska was obviously heading in the right direction.
On Saturday against Illinois, the Huskers rolled once again, defeating the Fighting Illini 54-35. Despite Illinois QB AJ Bush running for 187 yards and 3 TD, Nebraska’s offense proved to be too much.
Quarterback Adrian Martinez threw for 290 yards and 3 TD while adding 55 yards and another score on the ground. Running back Devine Ozigbo made all 11 of his carries count, going for 162 yards and 3 TD.
After the win, Nebraska coach Scott Frost spoke with the media:
"We got some good breaks today. We were probably due for some breaks. It was our turn to get some plays," Scott Frost says in opening postgame remarks. #Huskers

"I can't say enough about Devine. He's a completely different player from what I saw on tape last year. He deserves a ton of credit," Frost said. #Huskers

Frost says of Martinez: "There's not going to be anybody better than him once he gets as good as he can be." Says Martinez was disappointed in himself even after a strong stats day today.

Frost says Mo Washington is just "nursing something" but probably could have gone back in if needed. Says Spielman is going to be sore, "but should be OK."

Frost said he wouldn't have even needed to talk to the team after the game. Said Stoltenberg had the right message to players about finishing this the right way, and setting up the young guys for the future.
