The University of Maryland is using a search firm to assist in find a new head football coach, according to a report from The Washington Post.

Former head coach DJ Durkin was fired on Oct. 31 after being placed on administrative leave for over two months. The school has yet to name any potential candidates for the position, though it was reported recently that former Tennessee head coach Butch Jones had interest in the vacancy.

Offensive coordinator Matt Canada has been the team’s interim head coach since Durkin was placed on administrative leave and subsequently fired. He’s led the Terrapins to a 5-5 record, which includes a 3-4 mark in B1G play.

A spokesperson from the school declined to comment on the situation, according to The Washington Post.

Maryland isn’t the only major program on the prowl for a new head coach. Kansas is parting ways with David Beaty at the end of the season and Louisville fired Bobby Petrino over the weekend. There will likely be more openings at the end of the season.

Durkin was the head coach at Maryland from 2016-2018, but only coached in two seasons. He tallied a 10-15 record.

If Maryland opts not to retain Canada past the 2018 season, the program will be on its fourth head coach since the Ralph Friedgen era came to an end in 2010. Randy Edsall, Durkin and Canada have all occupied the position.
