Urban Meyer has had no trouble addressing how much Ohio State misses having Austin Mack on the field. Through the first eight games of the season, the receiver was one of the top targets for Dwayne Haskins.

On Thursday, though, Meyer paid plenty of compliments to Mack for his work off the field.

Mack is known for his activism within the Ohio State community and has been a leader since arriving in Columbus. Meyer says it’s rare to see someone with as much drive has the receiver.

“He’s an action guy. Tremendous human being,” Meyer said during his weekly radio show. “Tremendous in his faith and his leadership.

“By the way, he’s a heck of a player who we miss dearly now.”

Mack was ruled out indefinitely after suffering a foot injury and undergoing surgery. It was a huge blow to Ohio State’s receiving corps.

In eight games this season, Mack had 26 receptions for 331 yards and a touchdown. In his career with the Buckeyes, the receiver has 689 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

But Mack hasn’t been just a difference-maker on the field, he’s doing it in the community. It’s something his head coach, and his teammates have noticed.
