One of the best things about college football is the raw passion and emotion players have every week. Sometimes, though, that emotion can turn into a tantrum.

And on Thursday night, Houston star defensive lineman and future first round NFL pick Ed Oliver had an epic meltdown in front of the cameras. It was apparently over a jacket, too. No, seriously.

Oliver missed Houston’s game against Tulane on Thursday night due to injury. While he may still return to the field, he sent out a cryptic tweet presumably stating that his collegiate career was over. But the defensive lineman wanted to remain on the sideline and support his team.

Thursday’s game was a bit on the chilly side, prompting Oliver to put on one of the team jackets. After catching Oliver in the jacket, head coach Major Applewhite asked him to take it off, as those were reserved for guys playing in the game.

Apparently that struck Oliver the wrong way. As the team went into the locker room at halftime, Oliver confronted Applewhite in a loud way.

Oliver has always been a passionate player, but this seems a bit over-the-top. It’s also probably a sign that he won’t be returning to the field this season.

After the game, Applewhite addressed the situation, saying that the jackets were reserved for active players. He also said that Oliver’s outburst is the type of emotion college coaches have to deal with all the time.

Oliver did not return to the sideline in the second half.
