Scott Frost calls Kirk Ferentz ‘one of the good guys’ in college football

When Nebraska and Iowa take the field on Friday afternoon, there won’t be many hugs or handshakes going around. Though the rivalry has been brief, it’s festered into one of the better ones in the B1G.
But make no mistake, Huskers head coach Scott Frost has nothing but respect for his Iowa counterpart, Kirk Ferentz.
Monday, Frost met with the media to discuss Nebraska’s season finale against the Hawkeyes. While discussing his next opponent, he paid Ferentz a pretty big compliment.
“I know Kirk pretty well, mostly from my time at Northern Iowa,” Frost said. “He’s one of the good guys in the sport.”
After Frost was done paying respect to the Iowa head coach, he had to get in a subtle jab, as well.
“His sustained success is impressive but you still don’t get to 150 (wins) unless you’re a little bit old,” Frost said. “I’ll be sure to remind him of that when I see him.”
Ferentz won his 150th game at Iowa last week with a 63-0 drubbing of Illinois. He became the fifth B1G head coach to reach that plateau.
But Frost is right, Ferentz has been in Iowa City for quite some time. He took over the program in 1999 and is now the longest tenured head coach in the conference.
Nebraska is hoping to end an ugly three-game losing skid to Iowa on Friday afternoon. The Hawkeyes have also won four of the last five meetings, winning three of those in blowout fashion.
Over the last two years, the Hawkeyes have outscored the Huskers 106-24.
Friday will be Frost’s first experience in the rivalry game.
