What a difference a week — and one monumental win — can make.
Over the last month, Ohio State’s College Football Playoff odds have looked bleak. With a blowout loss to Purdue and unimpressive wins over Nebraska, Michigan State and Maryland, the idea of the Buckeyes earning one of the top four spots seemed almost impossible.
Now, Ohio State has been given the fourth-best odds to reach the College Football Playoff, according to ESPN’s Playoff Predictor.
The Buckeyes are coming off an impressive 62-39 win over No. 4 Michigan, adding another signature win to Ohio State’s resumé. And with No. 7 LSU and No. 8 Washington State losing, Urban Meyer’s group is bound to make some leaps in the rankings.
According to ESPN’s Playoff Predictor, Ohio State has a 48 percent chance to reach the College Football Playoff, the fourth-highest percentage of any team. It’s also been given a 15 percent chance to reach the championship game and a five percent chance to win the national title.
Here’s a look at the top eight spots, according to ESPN (percentage to make Playoff):
- Notre Dame: 99%
- Clemson: 96%
- Alabama: 82%
- Ohio State: 48%
- Georgia: 39%
- Oklahoma: 33%
- Michigan: 2%
The Buckeyes will have another opportunity to add another credential to the list. A win over Northwestern next weekend gives Ohio State a B1G Championship and a victory over another ranked opponent.
Not a bad way to end the year for a team that’s been ranked No. 10 over the last month.
Everything has changed dramatically after one weekend. Could we see another major shakeup, and the Buckeyes in the Playoff, next weekend?
