Garrett Rand liked what he saw on his trip up north.

The Chandler, Arizona senior got to take in Wisconsin’s 28-0 drubbing of Hawaii on Saturday. Apparently, the experience won him over.

Rand, a four-star defensive tackle, announced on Thursday his decision to commit to the Badgers.

With the commitment, he became the highest-ranked recruit in Wisconsin’s 2016 class, and also was the first defensive tackle to give his pledge to the Badgers. As a result, the Badgers jumped seven spots in 247sports’ composite team rankings up to No. 24.

The No. 15 defensive tackle in the 2016 class, Rand was also named to the Under Armour All-American Bowl. The 6-3, 275-pound senior is the No. 3-ranked recruit in the state of Arizona. Still, he was won over by the Badgers.

Wisconsin defensive line coach Inoke Breckterfield and associate head coach Joe Rudolph recruited Rand, who committed to the program after making his first official visit.

Rand was deciding between UCLA, Wisconsin and Arizona State, which was actually the 80-percent favorite, according to 247Sports.com’s crystal ball. He had offers from several B1G schools, including Illinois, Michigan State and Nebraska.

The day only got better for Wisconsin on Thursday when 2017 four-star offensive guard Kayden Lyles announced his commitment to the program.

Lyles, another Arizona recruit, is Wisconsin’s first member of its 2017 class. The 6-3, 290-pound junior is fourth-ranked guard in the class. He had offers from Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State.

The Lyles family could make a well-known name in Madison. Lyles could be blocking for his brother, Kare’, who is already a member of the Badgers’ 2016 class.
