Michigan wide receivers coach Jim McElwain might be back in a head coaching role soon.

According to FootballScoop.com, McElwain has emerged as a strong candidate for the vacancy at Central Michigan. It will be a short drive from Ann Arbor and McElwain has a successful background as a head coach.

While his time at Florida didn’t end on the best terms, he did win two SEC East titles. He was 22-12 in two-and-a-half years with the Gators. Prior to arriving in Gainesville, McElwain was the head coach at Colorado State, where he was 22-16 in three seasons.

FootballScoop.com is reporting that Central Michigan would like to make a “big name” hire.

McElwain joined Harbaugh’s staff as the wide receivers coach prior to the start of the 2018 season. If he were to take over at Central Michigan, it would be the third school in the state he’s coached at in some capacity. From 2003-2005, McElwain was the wide receivers coach at Michigan State.

In six years, McElwain has totaled a 44-28 record and led his teams to four bowl games.
