For a second straight year, Urban Meyer guided Ohio State to a B1G Championship. And for a second straight year, it wasn’t enough to get one of the four spots in the College Football Playoff.
Oklahoma received the final spot in the College Football Playoff on Sunday afternoon, meaning the Buckeyes will head to Pasadena to take on Washington in the Rose Bowl. Not a bad consolation prize for the Buckeyes.
It’ll also be Meyer’s first trip to California to participate in the “Grandaddy of them all.”
Meyer could’ve been upset about Ohio State getting snubbed by the selection committee, but instead, the Buckeyes head coach is looking forward to the opportunity ahead.
“I don’t want to devalue what we just did,” Meyer said Sunday. “We just won the B1G championship.”
The Buckeyes posted a 45-24 win over Northwestern on Saturday night, improving to 12-1 on the season. Some thought it might be enough to creep into that fourth spot.
In the end, it wasn’t enough to leapfrog Alabama. But Meyer isn’t planning on wasting time by criticizing and critiquing the selection committee’s decision.
“The last thing we’re going to do is stand up here and criticize the committee,” Meyer said. “We’re not going to do that.”
Now, the Buckeyes prepare for their Jan. 1 date with Washington, which won the Pac-12. It’s the first time the team has made the trip to Pasadena since 2009 and Meyer’s first visit.
Meyer is looking forward to it.
“My understanding is it’s the greatest bowl of them all.”
