Matt Canada responds to Maryland’s hiring of Mike Locksley

Matt Canada has been a busy coach over the past few years.
The former Indiana and Wisconsin assistant teamed up with Pat Narduzzi at Pittsburgh for the 2016 season. Following a strong season where he drew recognition for his work as OC with the Panthers, Canada accepted the OC position with head coach Ed Orgeron at LSU.
After just one season with the Tigers, Canada and the university mutually agreed to part ways. From there, he agreed to join DJ Durkin’s Maryland staff, again as OC.
Unfortunately, things at Maryland got a bit rocky before the 2018 season even got started. Following Durkin being suspended, Canada was named the interim head coach of the Terrapins. He responded by leading the team to a 5-7 record under stressful circumstances.
Canada’s work with the team in a tough season led many to wonder if he may receive the permanent position. He was reportedly one of three finalists for the job before the university announced the hiring of Alabama OC Mike Locksley to be head coach.
It remains to be seen what Canada’s next step is, but that did not stop him from addressing the hiring of Locksley. He proclaimed the hiring a “great day for Terps Football” while congratulating Locksley on the gig. Needless to say, it is an incredibly classy gesture from Canada:
