For just a moment in time, Paul Finebaum was on the Michigan bandwagon. When the Wolverines were obliterating teams regularly during their 10-game winning streak, the SEC Network host actually paid Jim Harbaugh a few compliments.

That’s all been washed away since Michigan’s blowout loss to Ohio State to close out the season. And now, Finebaum is of the believe that the folks in Ann Arbor would be better off if someone else was handed the program.

During his weekly appearance on WJOX, Finebaum was asked about Harbaugh’s comments regarding the NFL rumors. The Michigan head coach said he has absolutely no interest in leaving Ann Arbor and that the NFL stories surface every year.

Finebaum doesn’t understand Harbaugh’s gripe.

“With Jim Harbaugh it always has to be a big deal,” Finebaum said. “It always has to be that the world is after him. First of all, he’s not that attractive right now and he’s not coveted in terms of the world of college football.

“Frankly, I think Michigan is better off with new blood.”

Though Harbaugh hasn’t won a B1G title or beaten Ohio State in his four seasons in Ann Arbor, he’s still led the Wolverines to three 10-win seasons in four years. The last time Michigan was that successful was 1997-1999, going 32-5 and claiming a national title in 1997.

If Michigan defeats Florida in the Peach Bowl, it will be the program’s first 11-win season since 2011.

Has Harbaugh lived up to the sky-high expectations set in front of him when he took the job? Probably not. But to think Michigan hasn’t been successful in his four seasons is a misguided statement.
