Layne, who moved from wide receiver to defense midway into his freshman season, has proved to be an integral part of the Spartans secondary the last few years. Layne was named to the All-Big Ten second team after tying for the conference lead in passes defended (16) and pass breakups (15) this season; he also had 72 tackles and an interception for the nation’s 14th-best defense.
It is not yet clear whether Layne intends to suit up for the Spartans in the Redbox Bowl against Oregon on Dec. 31.
Unclear at the moment if Justin Layne @_jlayne plans to play for MSU vs. Oregon in Redbox Bowl or sit out to prevent injury. https://t.co/86gRXp3VIj
