A future Golden Gophers running back has been named the 2018 Minnesota Player of the Year by the Associated Press.

Jason Williamson, a running back out of Owatonna, rushed for 3,003 yards and 47 touchdowns this season. His yardage total is the second-most in Minnesota high school football history. He also guided his team to a Class 5A state title this year.

Williamson was also a first-team All-State selection.

A 3-star athlete, Williamson is listed as the third-best prospect out of Minnesota and is ranked as the No. 79 athlete in the 2019 recruiting class. He has been committed to the Golden Gophers since Dec. 21 2017, per 247Sports.

Minnesota’s class currently ranks 33rd nationally and eighth in the B1G.

Fleck has spoken about keeping Minnesota’s most talented prospects at home and turning them into Golden Gophers. He’s certainly getting one of the state’s top players in Williamson.
