Just one day remains until the Early Signing Period arrives for 2019 college football recruits. Future stars will put pen to paper and make a commitment about their athletic and academic careers.
At the end of the recruiting period, all fans are really aware of are the names that committed to their program. And, perhaps, a few marquee players who might’ve slipped away.
But have you ever wondered how many offers coaches throw out during a recruiting cycle? The answer is quite a bit. Some more than others. A lot more.
Max Olson of The Athletic recently tweeted out the number of offers each program has made for the 2019 recruiting cycle, according to 247Sports. And there’s a pretty big gap from top to bottom, even in the B1G.
Here’s a look at how many offers each B1G team made for the 2019 cycle:
- Nebraska, 413
- Indiana, 362
- Rutgers, 305
- Minnesota, 303
- Michigan, 302
- Purdue, 289
- Maryland, 277
- Michigan State, 209
- Ohio State, 203
- Illinois, 194
- Penn State, 193
- Wisconsin, 156
- Iowa, 131
- Northwestern, 103
So there you go. And of all those offers, a class typically ranges from 15 to 30 recruits. While there’s some science and sales involved in recruiting, it’s also a bit of a numbers game.
Early Signing Period begins on Wednesday, Dec. 19 and runs through Friday, Dec. 21.
