Ever since the College Football Playoff decided on the four teams that will compete for a national title, there has been constant discussion about expansion. It’s not really different than any other year, though the discussions have progressively gained more traction.

Wednesday morning, Brett McMurphy of Stadium ran a survey, asking 11 members of the CFB Playoff Management Committee if the field needed to expand. And there are more members who believe it’s necessary.

According to McMurphy, three members said yes, three were undecided, one said no and four abstained. Last year, the committee unanimously agreed that no expansion was needed.

This was one of the more hotly debated CFB Playoff selection years in the five-season history of the format. With Ohio State and Oklahoma having identical 12-1 records and both winning their respective conferences, the margin was razor thin.

Georgia was also in the mix with a 10-2 mark, having nearly pulled a massive upset over Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. The committee, of course, slotted Oklahoma in the final spot.

According to other reports, Big XII commissioner Bob Bowlsby, B1G commissioner Jim Delany and Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez are all interested in discussing expansion.
