A former Nebraska football player was reportedly arrested for assaulting an officer in Lincoln.

Per 1011 NOW, former Husker Alfonzo Dennard was arrested early Sunday morning following a traffic stop. According to the report, police were preparing to take Dennard into custody when he resisted arrest and assaulted an officer.

There were no details provided regarding the assault. Dennard was eventually taken into custody and was booked for third-degree assault of an officer, resisting arrest and failing to comply.

Dennard is a former defensive back for Nebraska, playing from 2008-2011. He was an All-B1G selection in 2011 and was named the conference’s Defensive Back of the Year his final season.

Following his career with the Huskers, Dennard went on to play three seasons in the NFL with the New England Patriots. He was a seventh round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft.
