Merry Christmas to James Franklin and the Nittany Lions.

On Christmas Day, 4-star linebacker and top 200 prospect Derek Wingo gave his verbal pledge to Penn State, giving the Nittany Lions their second commitment of the 2020 class. He made his announcement via Twitter.

“I feel that this is the best opportunity and choice for me and my family,” Wingo wrote. “I would like to announce my commitment to Penn State University.”

Wingo is a product of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He’s ranked as the No. 10 outside linebacker in the 2020 class, the No. 31 player out of the state. Wingo also cracked 247Sports’ top 200 list.

With a good chunk of the 2019 recruiting class signed, teams are beginning to focus their attention on 2020 prospects. This is a good way to round out the holiday season for Franklin and his staff.

Penn State put together a nice 2019 class, ranking second in the B1G and 10th nationally.
