Michigan DE Chase Winovich delaying surgery to play in Peach Bowl

It’s bowl season.
These are exhibition games, and people are realizing that now more than ever. Whether it’s due to injury or prepping for the professional ranks, more players are sitting out of bowl games than ever before.
Michigan has a number of players electing to not play. From what we know, RB Karan Higdon, DT Rashan Gary, LB Devin Bush and OL Juwann Bushell-Beatty will not be participating.
However, not all is lost when it comes to elite players playing in these exhibition games. Count DE Chase Winovich as one of them. Winovich is actually delaying a surgery to an undisclosed injury suffered against Ohio State so that he can play in the Peach Bowl and Senior Bowl.
“I need surgery on something, I’m not going to specify what it is,” he said. “They told me, really, timing-wise for that surgery, I wouldn’t be able to get it because I need to participate in the Combine and stuff and I wouldn’t be able to get it until after that.
“For me, I knew I wanted to be able to participate in the Senior Bowl. I was like, you know what, I might as well play. If I can’t make it any worse, I might as well go out and try and play with my teammates.”
Strategy is playing a part in Winovich’s decision.
“You don’t want to give details to Florida,” he said. “You never know what your enemy and opponent can do with information.”
The Peach Bowl between Michigan and Florida is set for a noon start on Saturday, Dec. 29 and the game will be televised on ESPN.
