It has been a rough season for Michigan State and quarterback Brian Lewerke, but he will get to end the season as the starting quarterback for the Spartans.

Lewerke injured his shoulder early in the season against Penn State. He was able to rally and threw a game-winning touchdown in that game, but continued struggles led to Lewerke being replaced by Rocky Lombardi.

Lombardi started the final two games of the season and played the majority of snaps over the final stretch of the season. However, Lewerke still suited up and was a game-time decision for much of the season.

The Spartans had not named a starting quarterback for the Redbox Bowl against Oregon as both Lewerke and Lombardi were preparing for the role. However, head coach Mark Dantonio confirmed Friday that Lewerke will get the nod under center.

When asked how he feels, Lewerke admitted that things have been much better throughout bowl preparation. Chris Solari with The Detroit Free Press shared Lewerke’s comments:

“I’m feeling better,” Lewerke said. “I’ve been practicing a little bit, and it’s been a lot better.”

Hopefully Lewerke is finally healthy this season and will look more like the player that accounted for 25 total touchdowns in 2017.
