Felton Davis III had his senior season cut short due to injury, but he remains upbeat as his focus turns to the NFL Draft.

Davis started 2018 on a hot streak, recording 31 catches for 474 yards and 4 touchdowns through Michigan State’s first six games. That stretch included a remarkable performance at Penn State where Davis caught the game-winning touchdown with just seconds remaining. Unfortunately, that would be the last catch of Davis’ career with the Spartans.

In the next game against rival Michigan, Davis suffered a torn Achilles that effectively ended his senior season. While the injury understandably was tough to deal with, Davis said he is not letting it get him down.

Chris Solari with The Detroit Free Press shared Davis’ comments:

“I’m a happy-go-giddy person, a happy-go-lucky person,” Davis said Saturday, ahead of Monday’s Redbox Bowl against Oregon. “I’m never really down about anything for real. Coming out here to Cali and spending my last bowl trip, it’s amazing having fun.”

Davis went on to say that the injury was just one of those freak accident type of things, but his progression should speed up once he is able to begin running:

“I knew what (the injury) was right away. It’s one of those things that’s like — dang. It’s a freak accident and like, dang,” Davis said. “It’s just how it is sometime. … At the end of the day, it happened. But I’m still out here, still considered part of the team, a leader of our senior group – regardless if I’m playing or not.”

“Once I start running,” he added, “everything will start progressing faster.”

Davis finishes his Michigan State career with 100 catches for 1,450 yards and 14 touchdowns. Hopefully he can find a team to stick with in the NFL.
