Dwayne Haskins wanted to play in the Rose Bowl. Regardless of what his future plans were, the Ohio State quarterback wanted to finish off an excellent season by playing Washington in Pasadena.

Since the Buckeyes won the B1G Championship Game in early December, Haskins has been hounded about whether he’ll return to Ohio State next season or declare for the NFL Draft. The Buckeye gunslinger has put a silencer on that conversation, saying he won’t make a decision until after the Rose Bowl.

Head coach Urban Meyer actually asked Haskins to keep it quiet until after the game.

During the Rose Bowl press conference on Monday, Meyer said he asked Haskins to shut down any talk about leaving for the NFL until after Tuesday’s matchup. Keeping those thoughts to himself would quiet some of the distractions leading up to the game.

Haskins threw for 4,580 yards and 47 touchdowns this season, leading the nation in both categories. He’s expected to be one of the top prospects available for the 2019 NFL Draft, should he decide to enter.

Haskins’ draft stock also improved dramatically with Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert — a probable first-rounder — saying he’ll return to Eugene for his final season.

When the clock hits zero on Tuesday, all the attention will be on Haskins and what his decision will be. But he’s done a great job keeping everything quiet leading up to the Rose Bowl.
