Report: Former Michigan star RB out as NFL assistant
By Paul Harvey
Published:
It appears one former Wolverines star will be looking for a new job at the start of 2019.
Tyrone Wheatley is a former running back who played at Michigan from 1991-94. Wheatley went on to play in the NFL after starring in Ann Arbor before transitioning to coaching.
He previously served as a Michigan assistant on Jim Harbaugh’s staff from 2015-16 before heading to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL. Unfortunately, it is being reported that Wheatley has been released after serving as the team’s RB coach the past two seasons:

Wheatley finished his Wolverines career with 4,178 yards rushing and 47 rushing TDs. Those numbers are good for fourth and second on Michigan’s all-time list. He was a three-time All-B1G player and the 1992 B1G Offensive Player of the Year.
Paul is a lifelong fan and student of all things college football. He has been covering college football since 2017 and the B1G since 2018.
