Ohio State defeats Washington in Rose Bowl, sends Urban Meyer out on top

Urban Meyer’s only trip to Pasadena ended with a success. And now, the legendary college football head coach is leaving the game on top.
Ohio State recorded a 28-23 win over Washington on New Year’s Day, adding a Rose Bowl crown to a B1G title. The Buckeyes finished the season 13-1.
The Buckeyes led wire-to-wire in Meyer’s final game, jumping out to an early lead and never relinquishing. At halftime, Ohio State had a 21-3 lead and Meyer’s bunch led by as many as 25. A late rally from Washington put a little scare in the scarlet and gray, but Ohio State made just enough plays to get the victory.
Quarterback Dwayne Haskins threw his 50th touchdown pass in the game, capping off an incredible year with another epic performance.
Meyer announced in early December that the Rose Bowl would be his final game as the head coach at Ohio State. With the victory in the Rose Bowl, he rides off into the sunset knowing he’s one of the best coaches the game has ever seen.
In seven seasons in Columbus, Meyer was 83-9 and finished 54-4 in B1G play. The Buckeyes won 11-plus games every year and were a perfect 7-0 against Michigan. They were 4-2 in bowl games and claimed three B1G titles.
Ohio State was also the winner of the national championship following the 2014 season, victorious in the first year of the College Football Playoff.
The one game that had eluded Meyer was the Rose Bowl, having never coached in the game in his long, successful career. On Tuesday, he ended his career in Pasadena.
Fittingly, his career comes to a close with a victory.
