Washington’s Chris Petersen: ‘Ohio State’s as good as anybody out there’

After going head to head with Ohio State in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day, Washington head coach Chris Petersen believes the Buckeyes were a team worthy of College Football Playoff consideration.
Ohio State posted a 28-23 victory over Washington in the Rose Bowl on Tuesday, finishing the year with a 13-1 record and a Rose Bowl crown to go alongside its B1G title. The Buckeyes jumped out to a 28-3 lead in the contest, but a late surge from the Huskies made the contest much closer near the end.
Petersen saw enough of the Buckeyes on New Year’s Day to determine that they were the real deal.
“I think Ohio State’s as good as anybody out there,” Petersen said. “I think they could have been in the tournament, the four-team tournament. I think a lot of people think that.”
The Washington head coach continued to say that he was frustrated because his team could’ve put together a better effort, particularly in the first half. Had the Huskies started the game strong, it could’ve been a different outcome.
Ohio State was snubbed by the College Football Playoff selection committee for a second-straight season, despite winning back-to-back B1G titles. A 49-20 loss to Purdue was too much to overcome.
Clearly, Petersen believes the Buckeyes could’ve competed with anyone in the country. Unfortunately, they didn’t get that opportunity.
