The eight Rutgers football players who were either dismissed or suspended last summer for their alleged involvement in a credit card fraud scheme have applied for pre-trial intervention (PTI).

NJ.com reports that the eight players — Brendan Devera, Kai Gray, Malik Vaccaro-Dixon, Edwin Lopez, Kwabena Marfo, Syhiem Simmons, Christian Onyechi and Naijee Jones — are expected to be accepted into PTI, a program that allows first-time offenders to avoid jail time. All eight had their arraignment hearings on Thursday.

The eight players were charged in the alleged theft of $11,450 from victims in August. The Rutgers University Police Department and Middlesex Country Prosecutor’s Office conducted investigations into the matter.

Seven of the eight players were charged with third- and fourth-degree offenses. Gray was charged in the second-degree because he was the one who allegedly orchestrated the plot.

Rutgers head coach Chris Ash will not make any comments on the situation until the cases are resolved.
