When you think about the worst plays from the college football season, Alabama doesn’t usually come to mind. Well, until Monday night’s national championship game.

Trailing 31-16, Alabama was facing a fourth down situation in Clemson territory. The Crimson Tide’s field goal unit took the field, appearing to attempt to cut into that 15-point deficit. Instead, Alabama ran a fake field goal attempt.

It went terribly, terribly wrong. The play never had a chance.

Kudos to Clemson, who was waiting for the fake the whole time. Still, that’s not a play you ever see from Alabama, especially with such poor execution.

That failed fake attempt set up a long Clemson touchdown pass, giving the Tigers a 37-16 lead in the third quarter.
