Report: Josh Gattis to become OC at Michigan just hours after reportedly taking same job at Maryland

Mike Locksley has just suffered his first major loss at Maryland.

Early on Thursday, it was reported that Alabama co-offensive coordinator Josh Gattis was headed with Locksley to College Park to become the offensive coordinator at Maryland. That news was reported by BamaInsider.com.

Hours later, though, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported that Gattis will now become the new offensive coordinator at Michigan, joining Jim Harbaugh’s staff in Ann Arbor.

Joining Locksley in Maryland seemed like a good move for Gattis, after the two worked alongside each other at Alabama and coached one of the best offensive units in the sport. Apparently the call — and likely money — from Michigan was too much to ignore.

Michigan’s offense was much improved in 2018 from previous years, but still struggled in big games against Notre Dame, Ohio State and Florida.

Gattis brings B1G and big-game experience to Ann Arbor. He served on James Franklin’s staff as wide receivers coach for six seasons — two years at Vanderbilt (2012-13) and four at Penn State (2014-17) – before arriving in Tuscaloosa.

Harbaugh has landed one of the up-and-coming minds in college football. For Locksley, it’s back to the drawing board.
