Jeff Thomas’ transfer to Illinois still isn’t a guarantee. Though a few weeks ago the talented wide receiver announced he was headed to Champaign, he may now be making a return to Miami.

A report over the weekend stated that Thomas was inquiring about a potential return to the Hurricanes football program after Mark Richt retired and Manny Diaz stepped in as the new head coach. As of Monday morning, no decision had been made on Thomas.

Per the report, the decision is in Diaz’s hands.

There was some confusion regarding the situation and whether Thomas actually did ask about a potential return to Miami. Recently, InsideTheU. spoke with new offensive coordinator Dan Enos about the situation, and it sounds as though there is some real conversation about a return for Thomas.

“I think that has come up but I’m not sure where it stands,” Enos told InsideTheU. “I think there are some talks going on but I don’t think any decisions have been made.

“From what I understand and hear, he is a very talented guy, so hopefully that will all work out.”

Thomas is an extremely talented guy, one that would be utilized effectively regardless of whether he stays in Miami or leaves for Illinois. He had 563 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2018, appearing in 11 of the team’s 13 games. Thomas missed the final two contests.

With the second semester beginning, Thomas’ decision — or Diaz’s ruling — will likely come sooner rather than later.
