Illinois continues to benefit from transfer season.
On Monday, AL.com reported that former Alabama offensive lineman Richie Petitbon is transferring to Illinois. He served in a reserve role for the 2018 season for the Crimson Tide.
Petitbon becomes the fourth transfer to join Lovie Smith and the Illini this offseason. Oklahoma receiver A.D. Miller, Georgia tight end Luke Ford and Miami wide receiver Jeff Thomas have also left their respective schools for Illinois — though Thomas is inquiring about a potential return to Miami.
The Illini also received good news over the weekend as top running back Reggie Corbin announced via Twitter that he would be returning to Champaign for his final season.
Petitbon has been a reserve offensive lineman for the Crimson Tide each of the last three seasons. In 2018, he made appearances in six games for Alabama. Petitbon has participated in a total of 10 games.
The addition of Petitbon gives Illinois some much needed depth on the offensive front.
