One of the best receivers on Illinois’ roster is making a guarantee prior to the start of the 2019 season.

Tuesday night, Edwin Carter III sent out a tweet assuring everyone that he will return to the field in August. That’s a promising statement from the star receiver, who suffered a season-ending injury early in the 2018 campaign.

“I WILL be back in August,” Carter wrote on Twitter Tuesday night.

Carter played in just one game for the Illini, making two catches for 34 yards and two touchdowns in Illinois’ win over Western Illinois in Week 2. He suffered a season-ending knee injury on his second reception in the end zone.

The Jacksonville, Florida native was a 3-star prospect out of high school. He was a member of Illinois’ 2018 recruiting class and earned playing time early in his career.

With Illinois needing more prominent receivers, Carter’s return would be big for the passing attack in 2019.
