Carl Pelini is leaving Bowling Green to rejoin his brother, Bo Pelini, at Youngstown State, according to a report.
FootballScoop reported that Carl Pelini is expected to return to Youngstown State to be the defensive coordinator. There’s also some understanding that he’ll be the head coach in waiting, according to the report.
This will be Carl Pelini’s second stint on Bo Pelini’s staff at Youngstown State. He was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach with the Penguins from 2015-17 before leaving to be the defensive coordinator at Bowl Green.
He served as interim head coach after Mike Jinks was fired midway through the season. He was 2-3 as the leader of the Falcons. Though Bowling Green went through a coaching change, new head coach Scot Loeffler planed to retain Carl Pelini.
In addition to Youngstown State, Carl Pelini also served as Bo Pelini’s defensive coordinator at Nebraska from 2008-11.
