A tweet from Florida State’s recruiting account to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day is catching a lot of criticism.

MLK Day was celebrated on Monday, and several athletic teams showed their appreciation for the sacrifice, courage and strength Dr. King showed during the Civil Rights Movement. Most of those messages came through social media and almost all of them were appropriate.

But the tweet posted by Florida State’s recruiting page on Twitter received some backlash. There’s an image of Dr. King with his arm extended and an FSU receivers glove covering his hand. He also appears to be doing a tomahawk chop.

The tweet was deleted less than an hour after being posted, but there were plenty of screen shots taken of it.

As you can imagine, there were plenty of responses to that tweet.

There may be a few more discussions about potential backlash the next time Florida State tries to incorporate a graphic into its message on Twitter..
