Former Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop has agreed to a two-year extension with Mississippi State, according to a report.

Monday, GenesPage.com reported that Shoop received a two-year contract extension, keeping him in Starkville through the 2020 season. Defensive line coach Brian Baker also received a two-year extension.

Under Shoop’s guidance, Mississippi State owned one of the nation’s top defenses statistically. The Bulldogs ranked first in total defense (263.1), second in scoring defense (13.2), second in rush defense (95.1) and seventh in pass defense (168).

Shoop was the defensive coordinator and safeties coach on James Franklin’s staff at Penn State from 2014-15. He left Happy Valley to take over the defensive coordinator role at Tennessee, where he was on staff from 2016-17.

Prior to the start of the 2018 season, Shoop joined Joe Moorhead — another former Penn State assistant — at Mississippi State. Though they both were on Franklin’s staff, the two did not work together in Happy Valley.
