Ohio State plans to honor Purdue superfan, student and honorary team captain on Wednesday before tipoff against the Boilermakers with a moment of silence.

Trent inspired millions across the country as he courageously battled cancer. His fight was highlighted by ESPN’s College GameDay during the college football season. His story was featured the same weekend Purdue pulled off a 49-20 upset over No. 2 Ohio State at Ross-Ade Stadium, a game he attended.

Trent passed away on New Year’s Day after a long and heroic fight with cancer.

Ohio State head basketball coach Chris Holtmann spoke about honoring Trent’s life prior to Wednesday’s game, especially as we are in Coaches vs. Cancer Week, a period when college basketball coaches wear sneakers along with their suits.

“I think it’s appropriate, in many ways, that we also recognize Tyler Trent,” Holtmann said. “What an inspiration he was. I had a chance a couple weeks ago when I was on the road to watch his funeral service…it was incredibly inspirational, as was his life.

“With Purdue coming in and all that he meant to the Purdue community and how inspirational he was not only to them but so many in the B1G. This is certainly appropriate for us to have a moment of silence.”

Purdue and Ohio State will square off at Value City Arena on Wednesday with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The game will air on Big Ten Network.
