Ryan Day releases statement on Ohio State’s new coaching staff

Ryan Day has officially assembled his first coaching staff as the leader at Ohio State.
Wednesday, it was announced that the Buckeyes would retain offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, which rounded out the 2019 staff. Day released a statement, saying the staff was set in place and that he has confidence in the group.
“I am really excited with the foundation of coaches who will mentor, coach and prepare in all areas the young men in our program,” Day said via a release. “I am obviously very comfortable with the coaches who have been here and helped us win consecutive Big Ten championships and bowl games, and I am thrilled they want to continue to help this program pursue championships and achievements.
“I am also confident the new assistant coaches will make an immediate impact on this program. I’m really looking forward to working with this staff these next couple months shaping the program and developing our players for the 2019 season.”
Day has kept several offensive assistants in place, but has looked for new looks defensively. Probably the most significant departure was defensive coordinator Greg Schiano, who had been with the program since 2016.
Former Michigan assistant coaches Al Washington and Greg Mattison have also joined Day in Columbus.
Ohio State finished the 2018 season with a 13-1 record, won the B1G title and earned a Rose Bowl victory.
