Illinois easily posted its biggest win of the season, stunning Maryland with a 78-67 upset victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Illini received a lot of help from its bench, as Tevian Jones and Andres Feliz for 33 points in the victory. Illinois’ Ayo Dosunmu led all scorers with 20 points in the game. He also chipped in with six assists.

Saturday’s win was just the second conference victory for Illinois, which is now 6-14 on the year and 2-7 in the B1G. Maryland dropped to 16-5 on the season and 7-3 in conference play.

Maryland led by as many as 11 points in the first half, holding a 32-21 lead with less than five minutes remaining through the first 20 minutes. Illinois finished the half on a 9-2 run to close the Terrapins’ lead to 34-30 at halftime.

The Terps jumped out to a good start in the second half too, the Illini closed the game on a 22-8 run to end the game with an 11-point win.

Illinois will attempt to build off the big win on Wednesday, when they travel to Minnesota to take on the Gophers. The Illini blew out Minnesota 95-68 in their first meeting in Champaign.

Maryland tries to rebound, taking on Northwestern on Tuesday in College Park.
