A former Wisconsin-Whitewater offensive coordinator has found himself in some hot water after reportedly providing opponents with some inside information this past season.
Per the Lacrosse Tribune in Wisconsin, Craig Smith, a former offensive coordinator at Wisconsin-Whitewater, sent an email containing PowerPoint presentations of the team’s defensive schemes, coverages and alignments to staff members of two opponents.
FootballScoop also reported on the situation, saying that Smith sent the email to University of Dubuque employee Nelson Edmonds, who was also a former assistant coach at Wisconsin-Whitewater. That email was forwarded to Dubuque head coach Stan Zweifel, who then forwarded to Wisconsin-La Crosse head coach Mike Schmidt.
Schmidt then reportedly forwarded the email to his staff.
The strategy didn’t help Dubuque or Wisconsin-La Crosse, as both suffered losses to Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2018.
Smith was let go by Wisconsin-Whitewater following the 2017 season.
