Penn State has stepped outside the United States to land its newest commitment in the 2019 recruiting class.

On Friday, three-star defensive tackle Joseph Appiah Darkwa committed to James Franklin and the Nittany Lions. He’s listed as the No. 1 prospect out of Germany. Darkwa posted a video on Twitter to make his announcement.

Darkwa becomes the 21st player to commit to Penn State during this recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive tackle is listed as a top 70 player at his position, according to 247Sports. His announcement comes just a few days before National Signing Day.

Penn State’s 2019 recruiting class currently ranks as the second-best in the B1G, behind only Michigan. Overall, the Nittany Lions sit at No. 10 in the recruiting rankings.

Darkwa is one of just two player who has not yet signed his National Letter of Intent with Penn State, joining three-star defensive end Smith Vilbert.
