Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois has been dismissed by head coach Willie Taggart, according to a release on Sunday.

Taggart issued a statement on Sunday morning, explaining that he dismissed Francois from the program. The head coach said the Seminoles are holding players to a “high standard of conduct.”

“Last night, I informed Deondre Francois that he is no longer a member of the Florida State football program,” Taggart said in a release. “As we build a new culture and foundation for FSU Football, we have high expectations for all of our student-athletes and we will not shy away from those high standards of conduct. We are moving forward as a program.”

Francois has been the primary quarterback at Florida State for two seasons — 2016 and 2018. Though he was the starter to begin the year in 2017, he suffered a season-ending injury in the Seminoles’ season opener against Alabama.

This season, Francois threw for 2,731 yards and 15 touchdowns while completing passes at a 57.3 percent clip. He also scored on three rushing touchdowns. During his career in Tallahassee, Francois threw for over 6,000 yards and accounted for 44 total touchdowns.

Florida State finished the season 5-7 in Taggart’s first season.
