The 2019 National Signing Day is here and while most of the schools across the country have nearly completed their recruiting classes for this upcoming fall, there are still commits that need to sign.

One that did sign with Michigan State on Wednesday was 3-star WR Tre’Von Morgan. Morgan, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound pass-catcher is rated by 247Sports as the No. 56 WR in his class. That may not sound all that fantastic.

But then again, former 3-star and even 2-star prospects turn into first-round NFL Draft picks every single season. Recruiting experts don’t know everything. One 3-star for a particular program could play like a 3-star, but with another program (like Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor) could perform like a 5-star.

Consider Morgan to have the upside of a 5-star guy. At least that’s how Mark Dantonio sees it. On Wednesday, the Spartans coach described the newest tall, athletic pass-catcher for his team:

“Tre’Von Morgan is a big-bodied receiver who reminds me a lot of Plaxico Burress in so many different ways,” Dantonio said in a press release while comparing Morgan to the former star receiver who played for the Spartans (1998-99) when he was the secondary coach, “not just catching the ball and his catch radius, but also the way he attacks things and his aggressive play on the field as well.”

If Morgan turns into the next Plaxico Burress, Michigan State fans will be thrilled. During Burress’ two seasons as a Spartan, he grabbed 131 passes for 2,155 yards and 20 TD. In the 2000 NFL Draft, Burress was selected No. 8 overall.

Morgan has plenty to prove, but if he averages over 1,000 yards and 10 TD per season while becoming a top-10 pick, any team in the Big Ten other than Michigan State will have its hands full these next few years.
