Fran McCaffery stands alone in second place on Iowa’s all-time win list after the Hawkeyes knocked off Indiana 77-72 in Assembly Hall on Thursday.

That victory pushed McCaffery’s win total to 169 with Iowa, ranking now second in victories among the program’s basketball coaches. He broke a tie with Lute Olson, who left Iowa with 168 wins.

McCaffery now trails only Tom Davis, who won 270 games in 13 seasons in Iowa City.

Iowa improved to 18-5 with the win on Thursday night, and is 7-5 in B1G play. In the latest Associated Press poll, the Hawkeyes rank No. 20.

McCaffery is in his ninth season with the Hawkeyes, and it’s been one of his better seasons in Iowa City. In his first eight years, McCaffery guided his teams to three NCAA Tournament appearances and three NIT appearances. Iowa has missed the postseason just twice since 2010.

The Hawkeyes are back on the hardwood on Sunday, hosting Northwestern.
