Nearly a week after National Signing Day came to an end, Maryland has added an enormous piece to its 2019 recruiting class.

On Tuesday, Nick Cross, a four-star defensive back from DeMatha Catholic High School, signed his National Letter of Intent with Maryland. He had previously been committed to Florida State and was also considering Penn State and Georgia.

It’s a huge addition to Maryland’s 2019 recruiting class, as Cross is the highest-rated player to commit to the Terrapins this cycle. He’s ranked as the No. 55 overall player in the class and is listed as the top player from Maryland.

Cross is listed as the No. 4 safety in the 2019 cycle.

This is the second time Locksley has flipped a commit from Florida State and Willie Taggart, stealing four-star dual-threat quarterback Lance LeGendre on National Signing Day. LeGendre was expected to sign with the Seminoles.

Cross becomes the 18th player to join Maryland’s recruiting class. Prior to his commitment, the Terrapins ranked 12th in the B1G and 60th nationally. The addition of the defensive back should provide a bit of a boost in the standings.

Not only does Cross’ commitment help the recruiting rankings, he’s a player who can step in and be a difference-maker immediately. That’s huge for Locksley and Co. entering his first year as head coach.
