Report: Freshman college football player dies from stabbing

Aaron Porter, an 18-year-old college football player at Bakersfield College, has died from stab wound injuries he sustained in a large fight in Bakersfield, Calif. in early February.
ABC23 is reporting that Porter was stabbed multiple times during a large fight on Sunday, Feb. 2. The Bakersfield Police Department has identified five suspects in connection for attempted murder, conspiracy and gang participation.
Porter was stabbed several times in the arm and leg during the fight. His family says he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and did not know the men allegedly involved in the stabbing.
Bakersfield College released an official statement on Porter’s death:
Renegade Athletics is saddened to hear of the tragic events involving one of our football student athlete, Aaron Porter, this last week. Aaron was a freshman redshirt offensive lineman on the Renegade football team. Our continued thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends throughout the community. Aaron’s character was always exemplary and his influence was profound. Coaches referred to him as the ‘Gentle Giant.’ He was well liked and left a positive impact with all he encountered.
Porter had completed his first season of college football and was studying criminal justice at Bakersfield College.
