Penn State graduate assistant Matt Fleischacker has landed a new job at the FCS level.

Wednesday morning, Fleischacker tweeted that he would be leaving Penn State to become the outside linebackers coach at Mercer. He has served as a defensive graduate assistant with the Nittany Lions the last two seasons.

Fleischacker made the announcement via Twitter.

“You have been my home for over 6 total years, and I just want to say thank you to the university and community for your support,” Fleischacker wrote. “To Coach Franklin, Coach Pry and the rest of the Penn State Football staff, I am forever grateful for the opportunities you gave me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the lessons and experiences I have gained from all of you. With that being said, I am extremely excited to announce I have accepted the outside linebacker coaching position at Mercer University!”

Before becoming a graduate assistant at Penn State, Fleischacker was an undergraduate student assistant with the program from 2012-15. He was also a graduate assistant at Appalachian State in 2016.

Mercer finished the 2018 season with a 5-6 record. The team is coached by Bobby Lamb, who has been the leader of the Bears since 2013, compiling a 37-31 record.
