Legendary Rutgers baseball coach Fred Hill, who led the program for 30 seasons, has died at the age of 84.

Hill was the head coach at Rutgers from 1984-2013, recording 941 career victories with the Scarlet Knights. He also guided the program to eight NCAA World Series appearances. Under his leadership, Rutgers won eight conference tournament titles (five A-10, three Big East) and 12 regular season conference championships (eight A-10, 4 Big East).

Before coaching at Rutgers, Hill spent seven seasons as the head baseball and football coach at Montclair State.

In his nearly 40 years of coaching baseball, Hill acquired a 1,089-658-7 record. He was a three-time A-10 Coach of the Year and was the Big East Coach of the Year in 1998.

Hill was three times named the ABCA East Region Coach of the Year.

After his time at Rutgers, Hill spent the 2015-16 seasons as an assistant coach at Caldwell University. He then went to Kean University in 2017, where he was also an assistant coach.
