Iowa wins NFL Combine medal count, B1G dominates Top 5

The NFL Combine medal count really doesn’t equate to much. It’s essentially just a fun way to show some school pride throughout the event and maybe earn some bragging rights.
Thanks to incredible efforts from Iowa tight ends Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson, as well as a good showing from Amani Hooker, the Hawkeyes won this year’s medal count in Indianapolis, totaling 11 for the event. They also had more gold medals than any other school with five.
Not too shabby.
Most of Iowa’s medals came courtesy of Fant and Hockenson, who ranked in the top three spots in nearly ever drill among tight ends. The Hawkeyes had held onto that 11 medal total since Saturday and never relinquished the lead.
Kirk Ferentz may now have some recruiting material for next year, as well.

Overall, the B1G had an excellent showing at the NFL Combine. Three other programs ranked in the top five in the medial count, along with Iowa.
Michigan came in third with nine medals and Penn State and Ohio State tied for fifth, totaling six medals for the event. The only other conference with multiple teams in the top five was the Pac-12. Washington came in at No. 4 and USC was also tied for fifth.
It was a good weekend for the B1G in Indianapolis. And now Iowa has some NFL bragging rights for a year.
