Iowa assistant coach announces retirement

A change is coming to the Iowa coaching staff just ahead of spring practice.
The Hawkeyes announced Wednesday that defensive line coach Reese Morgan is retiring. Morgan, 68, has been on the Iowa coaching staff for 19 years. He coached tight ends from 2000-02, offensive line from 2003-11 and defensive line the past seven seasons.
Morgan picked up his share of accolades in his tenure at Iowa. He has notably coached three Outland Trophy winners (Chad Hennings at Benton Community High School, Robert Gallery, Brandon Scherff), and John Mackey Award recipient Dallas Clark. Four of the players he coached have been named B1G Player of the Year at their position and three have earned consensus All-America honors.
Head coach Kirk Ferentz offered his best wishes to Morgan in a statement issued via press release:
“On behalf of our coaches, players and fans, I want to wish Reese and Jo the best in this well-deserved retirement. Always the professional, Reese’s entire life has been dedicated to education and coaching. I am thankful for the opportunity to work alongside him and appreciative of what he has meant to our players, our program, and the University of Iowa.”
Kelvin Bell, who has been on Iowa’s staff the past seven seasons, will step in as interim defensive line coach. He has worked with Morgan the past three seasons while also holding the title of recruiting coordinator.
