Justin King is leaving his position at Penn State for a new gig with the XFL. An spokesperson for the league told PennLive Thursday that King will be the league’s new manager for football operations.
A two-way star, King first arrived at PSU as a member of the 2005 recruiting class. As a freshman King contributed as a wide receiver, helping PSU to an Orange Bowl win. He became the team’s starting cornerback in 2006 and was named second-team All-B1G as a sophomore. After his junior season, King declared for the NFL Draft. He spent the 2008-11 with the St. Louis Rams then spent time with Indianapolis Colts (2012) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2013).
King was assistant recruiting coordinator for the Nittany Lions the past two years. Greg Pickel of PennLive notes that recent job postings have revealed multiple openings in the football team’s recruiting and player personnel department.
In his new role with the XFL, King will work under senior vice president of football operations Doug Whaley, the former general manager of the Buffalo Bills.
